#ImagineWhatWeCanDo

As an Occupational Therapist, I’m deeply passionate about helping people engage in activities they love. This kind of occupational engagement is essential—it gives meaning, purpose, and forms a key part of one’s identity. When you combine this perspective with the pure sport and passion of the Olympics, I’m truly in my element. Over the past two weeks, my household has been completely absorbed in the Olympic Games, celebrating the incredible achievements of all the athletes, especially our Australian team for their most successful Olympics ever.

However, this idea of doing what you love takes on an even deeper meaning when it comes to the Paralympics. These athletes have overcome extraordinary challenges to compete at the highest level, demonstrating immense personal strength and sharing inspiring stories that motivate us all.

Starting on August 28th and running until September 8th, the Paris 2024 Paralympics are set to take over my TV once again, as I cheer on all the athletes—especially our Aussie team. The Australian Paralympic team is impressive, experienced, and poised for a strong medal performance. Here’s a snapshot of our team:
- 160 athletes, 152 with an impairment, 2 guides, 2 boccia ramp operators, 2 cycling pilots, 1 triathlon guide and 1 rowing coxswain
- Representation across 17 of the 22 sports
- 61 athletes are making their Paralympic debut
- A special shoutout to Teleya Blacksmith, who will become Australia’s 16th Indigenous Para athlete. At just 16 years old, she’ll compete in the 400m and long jump under the T20 classification, proudly wearing the green and gold at Stade De France.
- Special congratulations to Madison de Rozario (Wheelchair Marathon) and Brenden Hall (Swimming) who have the honor of carrying the Australian flag down the Champs-Elysees at the opening ceremony.

The Paralympics also offer unique and exciting sports, such as wheelchair rugby, blind football, goalball, and boccia—events that provide a fresh and thrilling experience for viewers.

To support the Australian Paralympics team Weave Allied Health has purchased three virtual seats, one for each member of the house (including Mavis). We encourage you to do the same - Follow the links below to show your support. Best of luck to all participants!
